Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)
Just not a good horror film
I totally understand that this is an adaptation of classic stories and that there are certain elements that needs to excist to stay true to the original plot. However - just watching this as a person who never read about the stories before - it just isn't that good.
As a horror film it's laughable, the monsters are not scary, and the ones that have potential to be scary just ends up feeling off and comical. The only time during this movie I felt any sort of "ohh that's creepy" was when Chuck saw the old lady with the dog just sitting still and then looking towards him in the closet scene (the jumpscare after ruined it tho).
Otherwise they depended way too much on super high and sudden noises along with cheap jumpscares.
It was annoying that some of the monsters they could outrun, meanwhile some could teleport their way to them however they liked.
The trailer made it look really thrilling but in the end I walked out of the cinema disappointed.
I'm probably missing some "oh but they did that to honor the original"-point, but out of a subjective standpoint this isn't a good horror film.
Midsommar (2019)
When too much is too little
I'm all for not overexplaining things to the audience - but this movie just felt like they sat down and went "okay so come up with crazy stuff you might see in a isolated cult!". Also the fact that the friend group felt so separated and not really caring about eachother + making strange decision over and over made it hard to feel for anyone - ultimately not caring what happened to them in the end and during.
I would have prefered it if they had a more gradual suspence in the story and maybe not starting their stay immidiately with super odd stuff and 2 people jumping of a cliff.
Interesting concept and stunning cinematography, many of the actors performances are amazing and on point, however so many things were lacking and overall it just felt flat and... strange (in a bad way). If you expected hereditary 2 - this ain't it, Midsommar is not a horror film even tho the trailer kind of makes it look that way.
It just kind of felt like they wanted to make it odd just to make it odd.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Emotional roller coaster
Breaking Bad is and will probably always be one of my absolute favorite shows. Can't really add anything that hasn't already been written by so many other Breaking Bad fans - the character developments, the fine details, the suspense and thrill - I rarely cry during series/movies but I've watched all the seasons four times now and the last episode will forever make me tear up and just feel so many emotions at once.
Everytime it's over I always feel so full and empty at the same time.
Then I wait 1-2 years and watch it all again. This show is truly a work of art.
