1899 (2022)
The D🔺RK side of the sea?
I was a huge fan of DARK. I've seen it all the way through twice and I've even thought about watching it again and taking notes about family connections. I was really excited about this show. I even put it on my calendar. Binged the whole thing in two days. You don't get many hints about what is going on in episodes one through four. I wasn't truly enjoying it and didn't have much emotion for the characters, but I pushed through thinking that it would be worth it. Episode five offers a glimpse of what's in store, and there is a twist in the finale which makes me think there will be at least one more season.
At many points through the series you realize that these people are living in a time that cannot be real. Technologies are shown that simply didn't exist in 1899. For me, there wasn't enough foreshadowing for the reveal at the end. It was just too far of a leap. It reminds me of the movie Vanilla Sky. Remember that one? It had that twist at the end that you just couldn't have seen coming because absolutely no hints were dropped. I like that movie, but no person, not even a super genius could have ever predicted anything like that twist. This is kind of like that.
I left feeling frustrated at the end, hence the score. I will try season two because I'm sure there is a vision that will pull it together. So I hope to revise this six in the future.
Dark: Das Paradies (2020)
This was a great series but so many questions...
I devoured this. And liked it so much. But I mean, what about the kids with the burn out eyes? Why wasn't Ulrich at that dinner? And how does all of this stop Regina from getting cancer?
Miss Americana (2020)
Better than expected
Sure, there is a little bit of woe-is-me. But whether we live in a castle or a cabin, we all feel that way sometimes. Spoiler Alter... she's human. A smart one at that. I loved getting to see her writing process. And I love that she has obviously continued to read and educate herself beyond her incredible teenage years. If I were in her shoes, I'm not sure I would've taken the time to become as well-read as she clearly is. You are right Miss Swift. Someday your generation will usher Mrs Blackburn to the door. That they can't come soon enough for Tennessee.
Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985)
Loved this as a girl
And was so excited to see it pop up on Amazon Prime. So much fun.
