Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the Game of Thrones superstar, didn’t start his career casually, huh? Ole Bornedal’s psychological thriller Nightwatch just got a sequel, and what better time to revisit the 1994 classic? The plot of Nightwatch is seamless, and the thrill it has managed to retain even after all these years since its release is something else. Better not lurk around in the morgue if you want to have a good career in academics, I guess.

What happens in the movie?
Martin, a law student in Copenhagen, gets a job in a creepy mortuary (all of them are creepy; don’t fight me on this). His life isn’t that bad, as his girlfriend Kalinka and he have a pretty healthy relationship going on. Martin gets a tour of the morgue and starts the job, thinking he wouldn’t have much to do except sit the night away.

If you’re still in Shōgun withdrawal, you can look forward to Peacock’s own take on a lavish historical epic this summer. Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) is behind the small-screen adaptation of Those About to Die, Daniel P. Mannix’s book of the same name, which was also the inspiration for Ridley Scott and David Franzioni’s Gladiator.
This new period drama will come racing to our screens on July 18, with the decline of the Roman Empire as its backdrop. Peacock released a teaser for the series, starring Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hughes, and Iwan Rheon, among others, last month. And the streamer is now moving full speed ahead on promo with new images, including closer looks at the Roman Emperor Flavius Vespasian (Hopkins), who founded the Flavian dynasty; Titus (Hughes), Flavius’ son (and successor); and games master Tenax (Rheon, who looks to be considerably less sadistic here than in Game of Thrones.

FX and Hulu’s historical drama Shogun premiered on February 27, 2024 and did the seemingly impossible. Throughout the years, many shows have tried to claim the title of “the new Game of Thrones,” but Shogun became the first title to actually pull off such an ambition, unanimously dubbed as such by many fans and critics alike.
This year’s sensation just received a promising but also scary update: it might just extend far beyond the original mini-series. Here’s what we know so far.
Shogun Seasons 2 & 3 Are In the Works
FX is teaming up with original novel writer James Clavell’s family to continue Shogun beyond Season 1 — which was supposed to be the only one. A team of writers has been assembled to pen out the scripts of not one but two more seasons. Bold move.

Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny are teaming up in the streaming wars. Disney recently announced a partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery in a new streaming bundle that adds Disney+ and Hulu to the Max streaming service. This has also led to counter bundles from competitors Netflix, Comcast, and Apple. The lines are being drawn in this next phase of streaming.
However, one group is very unhappy with the recent announcement. The Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) has expressed its disdain for Disney associating itself with Max, a service that features multiple films and shows aimed at older audiences, such as Game of Thrones, with its violence and nudity.
In their eyes, they see this deal, and I am not exaggerating, as if Disney was adding pornography to the platform. While Hulu having movies like Poor Things (which is very graphic in terms of its sexual depictions on screen) was apparently okay,...

If everything wasn’t of the greatest caliber, a show like Game of Thrones would not have reached such heights. The two areas where the play truly excelled were the costume and wig designs. Hence, its prequel House of the Dragon including some of the best TV costumes and wigs ever produced shouldn’t come as a surprise. And Emma D’Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra, absolutely loves them.
Emma D’Arcy loves their House of the Dragon wig
The reaction to the wigs on House of the Dragon has been quite mixed. However, the one D’Arcy wears for Rhaenyra has been loved unanimously. In a recent interview with the Es magazine, D’Arcy said: “I’m very lucky, I look very different in the show. The blonde wig is a piece of armour that protects me. I have a very normal, ordinary day-to-day life and it suits me.”

Tyrion Lannister strangled Shae in Geroge R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO’s adaptation of the material, Game of Thrones. She met the same fate, at the hands of the same man, in the same predicament: Tywin Lannister’s bed. both in the show and the novel. However, everything that led to the moment could not be more different, as the Shae that audiences see in the show was on a very different trajectory compared to her counterpart in the novels.
HBO had taken some liberties with George R.R. Martin’s work, mostly because, as the author explained, the studio wished to fit the epic tale into the budget that was allocated to the adaptation. This resulted in certain characters being fused, while others met more gruesome fates than their novel counterparts. However, the changes made to Shae’s story only made the character meet a more tragic end,...

Even months before its release, Hiroyuki Sanada’s latest series was already garnering massive anticipation from fans. And, needless to say, as soon as it hit the screens, Shōgun didn’t hesitate to immaculately deliver to all of those expectations and do justice to the source material, becoming one of the biggest talks of the entire world and an internet sensation overnight.

However, that just might be about to change following recent reports about the series getting a second and third season greenlit by FX and being led by Sanada. Unarguably enough, that sounds just like what happened with Game of Thrones — i.e. the very saga Sanada’s series was being widely compared with — and things don’t seem to be looking all too good because of that.

Exclusive: The novel Next to Heaven hit the market this week. Written by Anonymous, it’s a social satire that is being shopped by WME simultaneously for both a publishing deal and a TV deal. The TV deal has just closed, and the publishing deal will be next.
The rights to turn the book into a TV series were snapped up by former Agbo and Chernin executive Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer for their as yet-unnamed production venture. They will produce with Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady (Game of Thrones). Schaefer most recently ran New Regency and produced The Martian.

FX has confirmed that the once limited or anthology series heavyweight has been officially submitted and accepted in the drama categories, where it will compete against Netflix’s “The Crown,” Apple’s “The Morning Show” and Prime Video’s “Fallout.” In addition, the network has shared exclusively with Variety the complete list of 40 Emmy submissions, which includes six submissions for directing, four for writing, and two eligible guest actors. HBO’s “Game of Thrones” currently holds the record for most nominations in a single year with 32. Could FX break the monumental record?

One of the major turning points in Targaryen’s history was Aegon’s Conquest. Aegon I rose to power and decided to consolidate the seven kingdoms. Thus, he became the first king of the seven kingdoms and forged an Iron Throne. We already have a Game of Thrones spinoff around this in the works, and the writing seems to be going well.
Who is writing the script for Aegon’s Conquest?

Romania-based filmmaker and writer Mattson Tomlin is currently working on scripting Aegon’s Conquest. The show will dive into the historical events that made House Targaryen one of the most fierce and courageous families in the world. Though there is no dedicated book written on this significant event, Tomlin claimed that he is crafting the show based on the pages of Fire & Blood dedicated to this narrative. Whenever someone brings up the topic of “the greatest TV shows of all time,” our mind immediately wanders to Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, The Walking Dead… You get the point. These are all American TV shows with big budgets and recognizable actors — but what we often fail to recognize is brilliance from across the ocean. There are some amazing gems there we never even touch!
Take this 2017 mystery thriller series, for instance. It has a near-perfect Tomatometer score; a near-perfect IMDb score (which is even more impressive), and is dubbed one of the greatest TV shows ever by fans — and yet, we only learn about it now.

Some 45 years ago, the Cannes Film Festival invited Francis Ford Coppola to bring his latest project to the French Riviera for a special “work-in-progress” screening. The movie’s production had already achieved a mythic status as an example of Murphy’s Law made manifest, from last-minute actor replacements to monsoons to storylines being added, subtracted and rewritten on the fly. Coppola had sunk a lot of his own money into the project, since the studios had been reluctant to finance what seemed like a huge folly. The director had staked...

One of the most comforting things fans find about House of the Dragon is the fact that the show is based on a complete story by George R. R. Martin and shouldn't deviate too much from the original plot. It was the writers' bad decisions that made the ending of Game of Thrones so traumatic for so many people, and now they should've been much calmer.
However, as it was already obvious in season 1, the story behind House Targaryen has also been changed to fit another narrative pushed by the show. Alicent and Rhaenyra were made much closer in age, and Alicent ended up being the one who de facto led Team Green into the war by putting her son on the Iron Throne.
From the looks of it, the changes aren't over yet.

Set in George Martin’s massive World of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones has a vast and yet untapped spin-off potential. Apart from House of the Dragon, there have been countless ideas and projects in discussion over at HBO in the past few years, and one of the most prominent ones — Aegon’s Conquest — is already in early development, with George Martin being actively involved in it.
Aegon’s Conquest’s Writer Gives Update on the Project

The CW announced its fall lineup Thursday, with the return of Superman & Lois, two new game shows based on classic board games and the new scripted entry Joan, a limited series starring Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner, among others.
The lineup comes after Nexstar’s acquisition of the network in 2022, and amid a new focus of becoming profitable and reaching a broader audience. That, in turn, has led to fewer U.S.-produced scripted dramas and a need to be scrappy and cost-conscious, as the linear audience declines and many other broadcast networks, including The CW, are seeing the need to slash budgets.
In light of this, The CW has also leaned into the acquisition of secondary sports rights, game shows and new shows in which the network owns all rights worldwide and therefore can profit off of the programs on streaming, unlike with its legacy shows All American...

This article contains no spoilers for House Of The Dragon season 2. But it does broadly allude to events from the source material Fire & Blood.
House of the Dragon season 2 is merely one month away from its June 16 premiere on HBO. As such, many fresh tidbits are beginning to trickle out about the next batch episodes for the Game of Thrones prequel.
The latest, and most substantial download of information arrived yesterday in the form of a massive, revealing new trailer and an equally massive, revealing feature from Entertainment Weekly. While we’ve already delved into the former, there’s a detail hidden in the later that deserves further exploration.
Amid EW‘s sprawling, well-written report focusing on House of the Dragon stars Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen) and Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), there’s a passage from series writer Sara Hess that invokes an unlikely source of inspiration for season 2: The Shining.

James Clavell’s 1975 novel Shogun chronicled feudal Japan in the 1600s. It delved into a historic retelling of how English sailor John Blackthorne ended up trapped on the shores of Japan after an unfortunate shipwreck. Thrust into the unknown political landscape of the country, Blackthorne’s character represented one of the first instances of a troupe which has since become extremely common in Hollywood.
When a capable hero is left trapped in a completely unknown world with no help or support, they must learn on the go and do whatever it takes in order to survive. With Shogun recently receiving a mini-series via FX and Hulu, her daughter and executive producer of the project, Michaella Clavell, recently talked about the various ways in which her father’s novel inspired even projects such as Hugh Jackman’s The Wolverine and Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai, despite being released decades earlier.

The Last Of Us Season 2 is in the works. Here’s all the juicy details we know about it so far, including what to expect from the upcoming season when it premieres.
The Last Of Us Season 1 Was A Huge Hit
Post-apocalyptic shows can often be a hit or miss with audiences. Particularly in the last ten to twenty years, the genre has been done and overdone. Franchises like The Walking Dead come to mind. While it started out strong, between the original and all of the spinoffs, watchers tend to have viewing fatigue.
That was not the case with the HBO Max adaptation of The Last Of Us. Season 1 on the platform was a huge hit. Actor Nick Offerman even took home his first Emmy award for his gripping performance in Season 1, Episode 3, Long, Long Time.

Brolin may not have the iconic voice of Morgan Freeman or James Earl Jones, but he’s working on it, and his tone is prescient for what is to come.
When I realized it was me who was the one in pain when I realized that I had created the hole inside me, it spat me out like it never wanted me in the first place.

Author George R.R. Martin created the global phenomenon Game of Thrones when he wrote the fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. Set in a medieval fantasy realm where Seven Kingdoms fight to be the ruler of the lands, the novel series spawned the popular HBO show which won multiple Emmys and was one of the most-watched series.
After the show ended with season 8, which was largely considered to be disappointing, HBO commissioned multiple prequels, of which only House of the Dragon has seen the light of day. However, among the multiple prequels in development is Aegon’s Conquest, which sees the origins of the Seven Kingdoms. Writer Mattson Tomlin mentioned that Martin instructed him to avoid one mistake from Game of Thrones creators.

The CW has unveiled its slate for the fall 2024-2025 season with returning favorites and new titles, including the expansion of the network’s CW Sports content. Hit scripted series Superman & Lois will return for its final season, and it’s the only pre-Nexstar era show currently on the schedule for next season. Canadian drama series Sullivan’s Crossing is also set to return. This means popular scripted dramas such as Walker, All American, and All American: Homecoming remain in limbo. None of those shows appear on the fall lineup and aren’t confirmed to return at midseason either. “No decisions have been made yet on those titles,” a network representative told TVLine. Instead, the lineup includes new scripted programming, including Joan, starring Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, and The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a spinoff of the original fantasy adventure series The Librarians. One genre that has experienced a renaissance in recent years is Sci-Fi. And while many people continue to enjoy more fun and adventurous pieces like Doctor Who, others are looking for something a little more mind-bending and science-based to binge on. 3 Body Problem turned out to be the perfect show for them.
Though people still compare the Netflix production to the C-drama original, which could spend more time on details considering it consisted of 36 episodes, the new iteration has received a lot of praise and ended up landing at the 79% mark on Rotten Tomatoes for its first season. But will there be a second?

In the first season of House of the Dragon, we were shown many representatives of the main houses of the Seven Kingdoms: in addition to the Targaryens, we saw the Hightowers, Velaryons, and Lannisters.
However, the family that played a key role in Game of Thrones was unrepresented in the first season of House of the Dragon. Did the silent and stern Northern Starks really not participate in the events that were about to bring blood to the Seven Kingdoms?
Of course they did, and even played an important role, while managing to be true men of honor, which is extremely difficult in the conditions of war.
The hero of these events was the young, but already experienced Cregan Stark, who will appear in the second season. Cregan, played by Tom Taylor, can be seen in the Black trailer standing shoulder to shoulder with Jacaerys.

The Game of Thrones is one of the most incredible TV shows ever to have been made. Adapted by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss from George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, the series was initially well-received, but the last season was one of the most critically lambasted.

From deviating from the source material to a lack of proper character development, fans have found several issues with the ending of Game of Thrones. This has prompted several fans to create alternate endings for the show, and one of them sees Jamie Lannister as the Queen Slayer, which would have actually been a lot better than the HBO series’ actual ending.

The five-part “dynamic and action-fueled adventure” series will follow Max (Allen) and Mohammed (Latif) two unlikely friends who become swept up in a cartel’s plot to transport uranium across North Africa and soon face an enormous decision: save themselves or risk everything to prevent a nuclear bomb falling into the wrong hands.
Pursued by Cassie Elliott (Wiley), a highly-skilled CIA agent, along with MI6 and a network of traffickers, Max and Mohammed find themselves, for once, having to be the good guys.
The show, from Gangs of London producer Pulse Films, is written by Gregory Burke (‘71, Entebbe, Rebus) and directed by Shariff Korver (Temple, Do Not Hesitate).

Fans Express Concern Over The Last of Us Actor Amid Season 2 Time-Skip - Main Image
HBO and Max have announced that production of The Last of Us Season 2 has already started. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will return to their roles as Joel and Ellie, respectively.
While most fans are pumped as the countdown to the show’s 2025 release has started, some can’t help but express their concerns over X and Reddit about one glaring detail:
The second part of the well-loved video game is set five years after the events of the first one, which is expected to be the same timeline for Season 2. However, some viewers have noted that Ramsey did not age a bit, both in the set photos and the official first look, thus wanting Ellie recast.
In Part II, Ellie is 19 years old, ageing noticeably as a brutal and defiant character in a post-apocalyptic world.

Plot: Thirty years after the events of the 1994 serial killer thriller Nightwatch, the daughter of two of the deeply damaged surviving characters takes her dad’s old job as night watchman at the Department of Forensic Medicine. Investigating the events that ruined her parents’ lives, she accidentally kicks off a new killing spree.

Nathalie Emmanuel knows all about not talking about the projects she’s in. Seven years on “Game of Thrones” as the fan-favorite Missandei gave the Brit an instant lesson on the dangers of spoiling a show where much of its popularity rested on an endless supply of (mostly bloody) shocks and surprises.
But Emmanuel’s now unable to talk about something very different, and for very different reasons.
“Megalopolis” is without doubt among the most anticipated movies of the year. The hugely ambitious magnum opus — and potential final feature — from master filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola is a project he’s been trying to get off the ground since the 1980s. But it’s also a film shrouded in mystery and intrigue, self-financed to the tune of $120 million and with ongoing speculation over who might pick up the not inconsiderable tab to release it. A secret screening in L.A. for...

In the scientific world, there remains to this day no single solution to the three-body problem. But if you — like us — are fans of Alexander Woo and Game Of Thrones creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff's Netflix series 3 Body Problem on the other hand, it turns out the solution is really quite simple. More series! And that's exactly what we'll be getting. Check out the streamer and showrunners' official announcement of 3 Body Problem's renewal below:
Now, true to the spirit of the brain-bending sci-fi series, 3 Body Problem's renewal isn't 100% straightforward. The series' renewal comes with confirmation that Woo, Benioff, and Weiss will get to take their ambitious (and seriously pricey) adaptation of Cixin Liu’s masterful trilogy of novels "through to its epic conclusion." Beta Cinema has arrived in Cannes with a slew of sales on its resistance epic William Tell.
Currently in post-production, screenwriter Nick Hamm’s adaptation for the big screen of Friedrich Schiller’s play stars Danish actor Claes Bang (The Square), Golshifteh Farahani (Paterson), Connor Swindells (Barbie, Sex Education), Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid, The Tattooist of Auschwitz) and Oscar winner Ben Kingsley (Schindler’s List, Iron Man).
The story takes place in the 14th century, “amidst the waning days of the Holy Roman Empire where Europe’s nations fiercely vie for supremacy and the ambitious Austrians, desiring more land, encroach upon Switzerland, a serene and pastoral nation.” William Tell, a formerly peaceful hunter, finds himself forced to take action as his family and homeland come under threat from the oppressive Austrian king and his ruthless warlords.

There’s more mind bending sci-fi in our future as Netflix orders more episodes of their popular series, 3 Body Problem.
Variety reports that Netflix has renewed 3 Body Problem, the ambitious sci-fi series from Game Of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, for “additional episodes”. The streamer isn’t calling this a season 2, but it seems to be giving Benioff, Wise and their co-creator Alexander Woo a chance to tie up loose ends.
The creators previously said that they’d need “at least three, maybe four seasons” to finish the story off. According to Variety’s reporting of the press releases, the exact number of episodes and seasons will be announced later.
“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” the creators said in the press release. “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we...

Marilyn Manson has signed a record deal with the metal label Nuclear Blast, and apparently is set to release his first new music since a number of sexual abuse allegations essentially put a halt to his career. The embattled shock rocker teased a one-minute snippet of new song on his social channels.
The snippet was also shared by Nuclear Blast, with a rep confirming to Rolling Stone that the label has indeed inked a deal with Manson. No song title has been revealed but the audio clip features Manson whispering the line, “Keep sleeping/ I’ll make you dream of me.”

A slew of other accusations soon followed by more than a dozen women. Manson has since settled a couple of lawsuits,...

Mainstream Hollywood cinema has been stuck in a bit of a rut recently when it comes to sequels. Characters fall in love in the first film, marry in the second, have children in the third – a pattern which, whilst it may be relatable for many, has the effect of making those characters seem smaller, less satisfying to watch, playing out the same rather limited set of options as the average person, heading for old age where once they might have ridden off into the sunset and left us to imagine something better. Meanwhile, in horror, it gets a little more complicated. Though Halloween’s Laurie may find herself taking on the same fight over and over again, other characters, like those in Slumber Party Massacre and My Bloody Valentine 3D, see the next generation confronted by horrors they barely survived.
