Homeland Security Gets Reality TV Show

5 December 2008 4:01 PM, PST | From tvblog.ugo.com | See recent TVblogo.ugo.com news

I’m not sure quite what to make of us this, as I was recently questioned about a container of contact lens solution in my duffle bag yet previously boarded a plane with a canister of mace, unbeknownest to me at the time, without having to remove a single shoe.  But yes, ABC announced yesterday that it will be premiering Homeland Security USA on January 6th.  According to the official press release, the show is: “based on a popular Australian series now in its fifth season. Produced by Oscar and Emmy-winner Arnold Shapiro ("Scared Straight,” “Big Brother"), the series takes cameras into situations never before seen on television, with each episode covering eight or more locations on the “front lines” where the officers and agents work each day. They have a job that is dangerous, difficult and always unpredictable. These aren’t heroes. They’re average men and women working against an epic landscape.

Dead Set DVD Details!

8 October 2008 1:29 AM, PDT | From DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news

Though we only just heard about the UK zombie series “Dead Set” very recently, it seems it’s been building across the pond for quite a while. Premiering on E4 this month, we just got word that the DVD set is already ready to hit UK shelves on November 3rd!

In case it's slipped your mind, “Dead Set” follows the survivors of a zombie uprising who have only survived because they’re the final contestants in the hit UK show “Big Brother”. Imagine a group selected by producers specifically to wind up being forced to work together to fight the undead. I doubt it will end well for many.

The DVD set will include a look behind the scenes, a tour of the set, featurettes on the special effects, and interviews with the cast and crew. Of course, the DVD set is only going to be available in the UK

Ridley Scott confirms and discusses Brave New World

7 October 2008 9:28 AM, PDT | From QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news

Apologies for being a little slow on the draw on this one folks but good news is welcome anytime in my books so onward we must go. Yesterday, the egg-heads over at i09 scored a chat with legendary director Ridley Scott and managed to swing the conversation around to his rumored interest in directing Aldous Huxley's dystopian classic "Brave New World." Seems that Scott is indeed looking to direct the project but is nowhere near happy with how its looking on paper. In fact, to a question about where the script was at, he had this to say; we're still struggling with that one. I have 40 things on the go at once. But that's a very important one. And sometimes, some surface faster than the others. It's partly luck of the draw. Even with a good writer, he'll do it and screw up. So then you go back to

HouseMD/house148.jpg" />For over four seasons, Fox's House has entertained us with his dry humor and cynical wit that never fails to amuse viewers worldwide.  In fact, the show which garnered impressive ratings from the beginning of its run, is still going strong, particular with viewers who watch on DVR.  TV by the Numbers reports that for the week of September 15-21, Fox's House had the largest audience via DVR viewing, garnering 4.064 million, which is one of the largest DVR audiences measured to date.

Alongside House, other shows that have ranked among the most watched through DVR are Fringe, Bones, Prison Break and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Included in the top ten list of shows with the largest DVR audiences include Big Brother, America's Next Top Model, America's Got Talent, 90210 and Kitchen Nightmares.

Because of the massive success that the show has garnered, the star of the show

Labeouf reveals surveillance paranoia

29 September 2008 6:11 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

Shia Labeouf has revealed his paranoia at living in a Big Brother society. The 22-year-old actor told Parade that he became aware of increased surveillance and invasion of privacy while researching his role in upcoming techno thriller Eagle Eye. He said: "I kind of live in a fishbowl, but what people don't realise is that I'm not the only one. "The irony is they say to me, 'I don't know how you can deal with being followed and recorded everywhere (more)

A couple of days ago, Sci-Fi announced that production for Endemol’s newest reality competition series titled Estate of Panic has started this week.  Moreover, actor Steve Valentine, who plays Dr. Nigel Townsend on the NBC series Crossing Jordan, was enlisted to host the show.  Dubbed as television's most physically and psychologically challenging competition show yet, Estate of Panic spans six episodes long, each of which will air for an hour.  The season premiere will hit airwaves on Wednesday, November 12 at 10pm on the Sci-Fi channel.

28 September 2008 9:59 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

ITV1 notched up another ratings win on Friday night with its lineup of soaps and drama. The channel recorded an average audience share of 24.4% between 7pm and 11pm, compared to BBC One's 19.9% and BBC Two's 8.6%. Channel 4 continued to mourn the loss of Big Brother with an average share of 5.9%, just ahead of Five's 5.5%. Anchoring early primetime for ITV1 was Coronation Street, which drew audiences of 7.76m (39.5%) at 7.30pm and 7.53m (34.4%) an hour later. Emmerdale had a decent 6.05m (33.9%) at 7pm and at 8pm, a Tonight report on inheritance battles brought in 2.97m (14.2%). EastEnders was BBC One's top draw, with 6.97m (33.5%) at 8pm. Shia Talks Fame and Car Crashes, Plus New 'Eagle Eye' Clips

16 September 2008 10:50 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Shia LaBeouf has not had a long time to cope with a horrific accident earlier this summer. Obviously, the story as it was first relayed - DUI, turned into oncoming traffic, flipped his truck, serious injuries to his hand - made the incident a big, big headline. But after he was released from the hospital, Shia returned to work on next summer's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and now he has to talk to the happy, hairsprayed harpies on the syndicated entertainment shows about his new film, Eagle Eye.

Entertainment Tonight, which for my money pioneered fluff, celebrity kiss-ass journalism, talked to LaBeouf about the accident and how he's coping with fairly sudden superstardom.

"The car hit me at 70mph," said Shia. "It was one of the biggest things that's happened to me, for sure, in my life."

LaBeouf also admits that fame has altered his life "exponentially in every way.

ABC's 'Wipeout' Ends with a Bang

16 September 2008 1:00 AM, PDT | From buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news

Wipeout/wipeout-abc3.jpg" />Last week, we saw the two-episode special of ABC’s Wipeout, which we previously reported has become summer’s highest rated new show.  Wipeout has attracted quite a large number of viewers aged 18 to 49, which is the target of most advertisers, thus making the show very popular amongst ad makers.  The show, which has constantly been compared with Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, boasts of larger-than-life obstacle courses in which 24 new contenders must survive every week to eventually win the title of Wipeout Champion and a grand prize of $50,000.

Last week, ABC treated us to two episodes of fun and games with the hilarious activities that sent contestants falling flat on their faces.

"This is a tough athletic event, so you have the kinds of injuries you'd get in a sporting event, like twisted ankles, bumps and bruises," executive producer Matt Kunitz said.  In the first episode, we

Check this: Ridley Scott's 1984... was a Mac ad

10 September 2008 3:53 PM, PDT | From QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news

In 1983 famed director Ridley Scott made a very strange yet completely awesome commercial for the Apple Macintosh computer. Taking its cues from George Orwell's 1984, the ad shows a dystopic world dominated by Big Brother oppressiveness and shaved headed sameness. Widely considered to be one of the best commercials of all time, the spot nonetheless only played once during that year's Super Bowl. What do you think? Should Ridley have lobbied to direct the feature film over Michael Radford? Or does the short shorts wearing blond give you the impression the original material is better served as is? Enjoy the full commercial after the break.

Five Things You Don't Know About Russell Brand

Not everything Russell Brand said at Sunday's Video Music Awards was met with approval, but that's in keeping with the comic style of the controversial host of the show. Trailer for UK Zombie Series Dead Set

3 September 2008 1:52 AM, PDT | From DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news

Those bunker-dwelling agoraphobes over at Quiet Earth just dropped us a line with a heads-up on something very cool those of you living in the UK better be on the lookout for. It’s called “Dead Set” and tells of a zombie apocalypse going down at the same time as the hit show “Big Brother” is being filmed. Wacky hijinks ensue.

The show was created by Charlie Brooker, who got to use the actual “Big Brother” house to make the show in. It should be interesting to see how many of the show’s in-jokes will carry over to a U.S. audience since our “Big Brother” is apparently quite different from there’s. Ours doesn’t have zombies, for a start.

The official “Dead Set” site has a very badass trailer for the show you should check out as soon as you can. The site will be opening in

Poor showing for Thurman's 'Zinc Bed'

29 August 2008 6:47 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

A one-off drama starring Uma Thurman failed to register much of an audience on Wednesday night. My Zinc Bed, an adaptation of David Hare's acclaimed play, drew an average of just 1.04m (4.4%) to BBC Two between 9pm and 10.10pm. The channel was actually in fifth place for the period, behind even Five, which had 1.3m (5.4%) for an episode of Rory & Paddy's Great British Adventure. BBC One dominated the slot with Who Do You Think You Are? This week's episode of the celebrity genealogy show, featuring an emotional Jerry Springer, drew a solid 6.5m (27%) in the 9pm hour. On ITV1, coverage of the Champions League game between Liverpool and Belgian team Standard Liege averaged 4.55m (20.1%) from 8pm to 10.10pm. A surprise live task brought in 3.4m (14.1%) to Big Brother in the 9pm hour, with a further 321,000 (1.9%) watching on Channel (more)

Trinny and Susannah ratings still low

29 August 2008 2:53 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

The ratings for Trinny and Susannah's ITV1 fashion series have failed to improve despite a move to a third new timeslot. Trinny and Susannah Undress The Nation aired its fifth episode last night (Thursday) to an audience of only 2.37m (11.1%). The figures meant that ITV1 was in fourth place for the 9pm hour. The series has now aired on three different nights over the course of its short run. The previous episode, shown on Tuesday, August 19, had gathered 2.14m (9.5%). Leading the 9pm slot last night was Channel 4's Big Brother, with 3.26m (15.3%) and 321,000 (2.1%) on Channel 4+1. BBC One was second with Robert Winston's SuperDoctors, which improved an encouraging 400,000 on last week to average 3.16m (14.8%). BBC Two's Mock The Week had a very strong 3.27m (15.1%) but in the final half of the hour, episode two of The Cup lost over (more)

Fall Out Boy to Drop 'Folie a Deux' on Election Day

27 August 2008 1:25 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Fall Out Boy will follow up their 2007 album "Infinity on High" by releasing their sixth studio effort "Folie a Deux". The album is scheduled for release on November 4, the same day Americans vote for a new President.

Referring to the release date, that coincides with the general election, and the album title, which according to dictionary means "the sharing of delusional ideas by two people who are closely associated", some claim that their upcoming effort will be politically charged. However, singer Patrick Stump denies the rumor and tells MTV, "It's not an overtly political record, but I'm not gonna say what it is, We'll just let the record speak for itself, but it is coming out on Election Day."

Earlier this week, the band have just released an online mixtape called "Welcome to the New Administration". The mixtape carries five demo tracks to appear on "Folie a Deux", including singles

31Knots

25 August 2008 9:01 PM, PDT | From avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news

31Knots might as well perform its new album on the mountain faces where the Spartans left weakling babies to die. Worried Well clearly has brutality, dystopia, and Big Brother on the brain, and empty space scours the record like a freezing wind, keeping the trio's math-rock decadence in check. Singer Joe Haege explores his themes with all the subtlety of a mincing vaudevillian who just discovered 1984. Amid the gleefully circling, ever-sinister piano and bass melodies of "Compass Commands," he asks a chorus of schoolchildren, "Who can tell me the universal rule of thumb?" They chirp back, "Kill or be killed!" and he beams: "Correct!" He also rips in from another side, yelling himself hoarse on the chorus. "The Breaks" strikes a similar balance: Jabs of noise and furious drum rolls put violent sting into a farce about a nightmare bureaucracy. ("The waiting room will see you now.")...

Frightfest 08: More on Charlie Brooker's tv zombedy Dead Set

25 August 2008 2:22 PM, PDT | From QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news

Bit of an exclusive at the last night of London's Frightfest as Charlie Brooker introduced 2 minutes of footage from E4's much-rumoured Dead Set. The premise: the zombies have taken over and what better place than the Big Brother House to hold out against the zed hordes? Trouble is, the contestants are unaware anything's gone awry in the outside world. An aerial shot shows fast-running zeds gathering outside the set gates. Inside the house, the usual, purposefully mis-matched rabble argue with a runner from the Big Brother crew who's forced her way into the house. The contestants stand around and watch her uncertainly as she presses her face up aginst the one-way mirror that surrounds the living area. Directly on the other side of the mirror an evil looking zed stares back (see still); he's trapped in the camera run used to film the interior of the house. The contestants think she's a plant,

There are zombies in the Big Brother house! check out Dead Set

22 August 2008 9:13 AM, PDT | From QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news

Even though details about the new British TV show, Dead Set, are scarce (word around the web is we can expect a big announced at the Film4 FrightFest on Monday), our tireless news hound Avery managed to sniff out some interesting deets from the lads over at Aith. The 6 part Dead Set series is being made by Big Brother producer Endemol UK's independent arm Zeppotron, and will be filmed entirely in the Brig Brother house! It is being described as 24 with zombies, where contestants of the show are unaware - at least initially - that the end of the world is happening just outside their walls..... Two things strike me as being particularly cool about this premise. While this isn't the first time that a reality show has been the backdrop of a horror flick (most recently Wrong Turn 2 used it to pretty good effect), the Big Brother twist
