Hot on a role right now, Glen Powell is set for a reimaging of ‘Heaven Can Wait’ which is in early development at Paramount Pictures.
Based on Harry Segall’s play of the same name, the story made its way to the big screen back in 1978 and starred Warren Beatty. It focused on Beatty’s NFL quarterback who dies prematurely due to an antsy angel and returns to Earth in the body of a recently murdered millionaire. Beatty also co-directed the film with Buck Henry and co-wrote the script with Elaine May.
Also in news – Steve Carrell set for HBO untitled comedy series
Oscar winner Stephan Gaghan is set to pen the latest iteration of the story. Powell and Gaghan’s upcoming project is reportedly not a remake and will not centre around a football player as the main character. However, it will retain the concept of a man being taken away before his time.

Much like the fun-loving cut-up he plays in Richard Linklater’s “Everybody Wants Some!!,” Glenn Powell likes to have a good time. When he started his career, he was eager to put himself out there in ways that made him attractive to some, but an outcast to others. In a recent profile in Vanity Fair, Powell spoke of his early days in Hollywood and how things have shifted in the last year or two with hits like “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Anyone But You” and new blockbusters on approach like “Twisters.”
“I came from that college-party mentality where there are no boundaries,” Powell said of acclimating to Hollywood culture. “Nobody gives a fuck about you in Hollywood if you can’t offer them something.”
For the longest time, Powell wasn’t sure what he could offer people other than his upbeat personality and natural charisma, features that didn’t seem...

The 2022 Sundance Film Festival arguably was among the best years for recent breakout filmmakers. Several new filmmakers jumped out as promising voices: Cooper Raiff with “Cha Cha Smooth,” Nikyatu Jusu with “Nanny,” and Julian Higgins with “God’s Country.” But arguably, the film that popped the most, perhaps because of its second life on Netflix and streaming services, was John Patton Ford’s “Emily The Criminal” starring Aubrey Plaza.

Sydney Sweeney is an up-and-coming young actor who has taken the world by storm because of her brilliant talent. The American actress has been acting from a young age and she has been around the industry for a long time. Sweeney has also enjoyed a healthy film career and has her own production company, Fifty-Fifty Films which recently produced the psychological horror film Immaculate while she did technically appear in a Marvel film known as Madame Web, let’s ignore that film as best we can. Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins got cheeky about the sales talks surrounding his corporate parent Paramount Global.
In a presentation to worldwide theater owners at the annual Las Vegas convention CinemaCon, Robbins got right to the point in his opening remarks about what’s next for his team. The actor-turned-executive asked the crowd at Caesars Palace if they’d heard about recent speculation over the sale before announcing that “my colleague Chris Aronson is also raising money to make a bid for the studio; he has a Kickstarter.”
The joke was accompanied by a mock news report featuring Paramount film distribution president Aronson, who was pictured holding a cardboard sign soliciting donations. “Anything helps,” it read.
Aronson is known for his deep ties to the theater owners and for splashy CinemaCon entrances. It may be super inside baseball, but the crowd ate it up. Though Robbins ultimately avoided any material...

Sydney Sweeney has had a busy few months as she rises to new levels of stardom. After the mammoth success of her romantic comedy with Top Gun: Maverick’s Glenn Powell called Anyone But You, the actress starred in the meme-bank Sony film Madame Web. The actress is now gearing up for the release of her first production, the horror film Immaculate.
Sweeney reportedly first came across the script for the film when she auditioned for it way before her fame. Though the project did not take off, the script of the film reportedly kept spinning her head, and when she got the chance to produce her own film, she decided to contact the screenwriter. While there were some changes from the original script, Sweeney mentioned that her performance in one particular scene in the film was the result of her reaction to a real-life incident.

Since the Dcu is still in its development stage at the moment, there are a lot of decisions to be taken for the future of the franchise. Thus, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are still in the process of hiring new stars that will become crucial parts of the entire narrative going forward, which has led to a lot of speculations being put to the test.
James Gunn and Margot Robbie on the sets of The Suicide Squad
Among the many rumors that were being churned out, there was one that stated Booster Gold, a character from the pages of DC Comics might become part of the franchise’s events, which has not only been confirmed but has also been successfully assigned to a star. If Gunn’s early claims are true, many people believe that the actor that the role went to was none other than Chris Pratt.

Made for a reported $25 million, Sony’s “Anyone But You” broke the supposed curse of the romcom not performing at the box office (and only working on streaming) this year. Slowly but surely, the Glenn Powell and Sydney Sweeney starring film crossed $189 million at the worldwide box office this past weekend. Nearly two months after its release (December 22), the film is still in theaters and slowly chugging away at the box office.

February continued January’s downturn at the box office, with two new wide releases and a hotly-anticipated Super Bowl Sunday to keep anything from doing particularly well. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Of the two new wide releases, Focus Features’ romantic horror-comedy “Lisa Frankenstein” was probably the most high-profile one, but otherwise, much of the chatter this weekend was about an impending sporting event and whether a certain pop star might attend.
Even though Matthew Vaughn‘s star-studded action comedy, “Argylle,” took a massive 63% plunge in its second weekend, it still managed to retain first place with a weak $6.5 million, which is back down to the level of the top movies just two weeks ago. It has grossed $28.8 million domestically so far, which isn’t great considering the cost to Apple Studios to buy and release it. It added another $9.4 million internationally this weekend for a global take of $60.1 million so far.

I suppose going into a movie like Anyone But You with no expectations helps it land in the “oh, it really wasn’t that bad” category. I’m the exact target demographic for this film; it’s a rom-com with the cheesiness of late 90s and early 2000s rom-coms, two of the hottest (white) actors on the scene today, and a ridiculously cringy plot that is predictable from start to finish. It’s entertaining; there’s some gorgeous scenery and some splendid outfits, and everyone looks stunning, but the most important thing is that the heart is believable amidst the glamour and snark of it all. No, this is not some Oscar-worthy film, nor is it the best romance you’ve ever seen, and no, it’s not even the best comedy you’ve ever seen, but it’s still infectiously amusing, so I’d say it’s worth a watch.

One of the most exciting movie releases of 2024 just got its first trailer. "Hit Man," the latest film by acclaimed indie director Richard Linklater (the man responsible for "School of Rock") received near-universal praise when it screened at film festivals in the fall of last year, and now audiences can finally get a taste of what the fuzz is about. Turns out, a lot of it may just be the chance to see Glen Powell dressing up in a lot of silly outfits. You know what, though? We're fully in.
"Hit Man" sees the latest collaboration between Powell and Linklater after "Everybody Wants Some!!" and "Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood," and this time they also co-wrote the script together, based on the 2001 Texas Monthly magazine article of the same name by Skip Hollandsworth (who also wrote the article that inspired Linklater's "Bernie" as well as co-writing that screenplay...

Hopefully, you’ve already read this week’s weekend movie preview, so you know that “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” “Godzilla Minus One,” the revenge thriller “Silent Night” and more will be opening on this slow weekend coming up, so we can focus on the rest of the month, including the lucrative weeks around Christmas Day.
Oddly, the top three movies for the rest of the month might all be from the same studio, which is something fairly unheard of, even and especially during the holidays. Read on for Gold Derby’s December 2023 box office preview.

Jason Momoa returns with this “Justice League” superhero in the sequel to the DC movie that opened with $67.8 million almost exactly five years ago and ended up making $1.1 billion globally, not bad for a superhero that’s often been treated as a joke on “Saturday Night Live” to “Entourage.

For months, it seemed near certain that domestic box office for 2023 would surpass $9 billion — even after strike-related delays meant losing as much as $500 million in potential gross. To be sure, $9 billion wasn’t a crazy goal; it represents 22 percent above 2022, but far below the glory days of 2018 and 2019. Both years surpassed $11 billion at ticket prices about 15 percent lower than now.
After a very disappointing November, crossing $9 billion becomes a nail-biter. This month’s total will be about $560 million, 11 percent down from $628 million last year.
Leading the shortfall are “The Marvels” and “Wish,” Disney’s two most recent disappointments. “Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” (Lionsgate) will just reach $100 million for the month. Other Novembers saw movies gross more than $200 million like last year’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” or “Frozen” and “Thor: Ragnarok” in 2017.
That leaves year-to-date box office at $8.17 billion, with $830 million more needed to reach $9 billion.

As “The Curse” prepared to air its second episode on Showtime and Paramount+, its co-creator and star Nathan Fielder participated in an irreverent marketing stunt that could have been ripped straight from a “Nathan for You” episode.
In a new promotional video that was shown before “The Curse” trailers on Instagram, Fielder and his co-star Emma Stone recreated a similar pre-trailer video that Sydney Sweeney and Glenn Powell previously released for their upcoming Sony rom-com “Anyone but You.” The original video shows Sweeney and Powell flirtatiously arguing about who the real star of the enemies-to-lovers film is, before reluctantly agreeing that it’s “our movie” and introducing the trailer. To be fair, I feel like a stranger in a stranger land entering the first screening (6pm) of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. Screen 9 at a North London Vue cinema is about to be transformed into the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. I am surrounded by faded Taylor tees, the oldest person here by country miles. The running time is 168 minutes, an epic journey through the ten epochs of Swift’s output. I’m not sure I’m ready.
I knew next to nothing about Taylor Swift before being asked to review this (the sum of my knowledge ran to something about ‘a fella over there with hella good hair’) so did a crash course in Swiftology via Spotify and Netflix. I am always a sucker for a cultural swoon — this started with being ten in 1977 when Star Wars came out— so was fascinated to see why the world is...

Is it something in the air? At this year’s Venice Film Festival, the unofficial theme appears to be hit men. David Fincher’s “The Killer” is all about an icy methodical professional executioner. Woody Allen’s “Coup de Chance” turns on an act of murder-for-hire. And now, just in time to steal the buzz from both those movies, we have Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man,” a screwball philosophical thriller comedy noir about the world’s unlikeliest undercover agent. He’s a one-of-a-kind movie hero, though in more ways than not he’s just like us.
The movie, which is based on a 2001 Texas Monthly article, tells the tale of Gary Johnson, a part-time college teacher who works for the New Orleans Police Department as a tech consultant, helping to make recordings of sting operations. Then he’s tapped to go undercover himself. Why would this even happen? The film...

Sydney Sweeney isn't shying away from the public eye amid rumors about her relationship with "Anyone But You" costar Glenn Powell.
The star walked the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art steps for the 2023 Met Gala on May 1, her second time at the high-profile event. Sweeney dazzled in a bejeweled blush gown, which she paired with a black ribbon in her hair and matching Miu Miu purse.
